Process control
Machining PEEK takes more than standard plastic processing
Heat from cutting can cause warping, internal stress, or dimensional instability. Specialized tooling and optimized feeds and speeds help protect surface quality and part geometry.
Discuss your machining requirements01 / Stress relief
Stability through controlled annealing
For complex geometries and critical dimensions, a controlled stress-relief approach helps reduce the risk of movement during and after machining.
02 / Thermal management
Appropriate coolant management
Carefully selected fluids support thermal equilibrium while helping avoid material contamination.
03 / Tooling
Sharp, suitable cutting edges
Diamond-coated or specialized carbide tooling helps maintain edge quality and prevent surface degradation.
Material selection
Choose the PEEK grade around the application
Grade choice affects chemical resistance, stiffness, wear behavior, and suitability for the finished component. We can help source traceable stock shapes and review applicable certification requirements.
Grade 01
Unfilled PEEK
A strong candidate for medical and food-grade applications where chemical resistance and sterilization capabilities are important.
For medical device projects, material sourcing can be reviewed against requirements such as USP Class VI.
Grade 02
Glass-filled PEEK · 30% GF
Glass reinforcement provides increased rigidity and dimensional stability for structural components. Review the grade against the part’s loads, geometry, and operating environment.
Grade 03
Carbon-filled PEEK · 30% CF
Carbon reinforcement offers a high strength-to-weight ratio and superior wear resistance, making it worth evaluating for high-friction environments.
Certification and traceability needs vary by industry and application. Share your specification so material sourcing can be assessed accordingly.
Engineering for material yield
Reduce waste before the first cut
Because PEEK is a high-cost raw material, the right blank and a manufacturable design can make a meaningful difference to project economics. Our engineering team reviews CAD models for opportunities to limit scrap and reduce machining risk.
Request a design-for-manufacturing reviewNear-net-shape blanks
Evaluate closer-fitting blanks instead of machining from a standard block where suitable, helping reduce excess material removal.
Wall thickness and rib design
Review geometry to help prevent vibration and deflection during machining—common contributors to scrapped parts.
Application-led tolerances
Confirm which tolerances are functionally necessary. Overly tight tolerances on plastic parts can increase machining time and risk of failure.
From project brief to inspected part
Coordinate complex PEEK projects with confidence
For high-mix, low-to-medium volume production, BG CNC coordinates with a network of 50+ manufacturing partners to align project requirements with suitable capabilities—including specialized clean-room facilities for medical components or high-capacity CNC shops for semiconductor hardware.
01 / Match
Select the right manufacturing fit
Project requirements are matched to partner capabilities, material needs, and production volume.
02 / Align
Clarify drawings and process needs
Technical communication helps ensure specifications and machining sequences are understood on the shop floor.
03 / Verify
Inspect beyond dimensions
CMM or optical inspection can verify critical features, with surface checks for thermal damage and tool marks that could act as stress risers.
Quality records for demanding sectors
Material certificates and inspection reports can support traceability requirements for medical and aerospace sectors. Applicable documentation is reviewed against your project specifications.
Material feasibility
Is PEEK the right material for your part?
PEEK is often selected for high-temperature performance, including continuous use up to 250°C, but it is not always the most economical choice. Engineers can help assess whether PEEK is necessary or whether PPS, Ultem, or a high-strength aluminum alloy may meet the application requirements at a lower total cost.
