Custom Kovar Machining for Precision Components
Need Kovar parts for electronic packaging, vacuum equipment, optics, semiconductor systems, or glass-to-metal seals? BGCNC coordinates custom manufacturing in China, matching your drawings and production requirements with suitable manufacturing partners.
For low- to medium-volume projects, we help coordinate material verification, thermal expansion compatibility, precise dimensions, and controlled part handling.
A supplier matched to the part—not just the material
Kovar-specific capability, documentation, and process suitability are checked with the proposed manufacturing partner before production.
Material compatibility
Kovar parts for applications where interfaces matter
Kovar is a nickel-cobalt-iron alloy selected when its thermal expansion behavior needs to correspond with a particular glass or ceramic. It is used for components such as sealing rings, feedthrough parts, housings, frames, and precision interfaces in electronic packages and vacuum assemblies.
The material name alone is not enough to define a successful part. Grade, mating material, temperature range, geometry, and sealing method all affect the design and manufacturing plan. Kovar is commonly associated with UNS K94610, but the designation and acceptance requirements should be confirmed against your drawing and purchase specification.
Share documentation requirements at RFQ stage
If material certificates, traceability, or inspection records are required, tell us early so we can check what documentation is available from a suitable manufacturing partner.
Manufacturing support
A coordinated route for your Kovar project
We coordinate the manufacturing route around part geometry and production quantity rather than limiting a project to one factory’s equipment.
CNC milling and turning
For housings, rings, flanges, plates, and other machined features.
3-, 4-, and 5-axis machining
Considered for parts with multiple faces, angled features, or more involved geometries.
EDM and grinding
Secondary operations assessed when feature or finishing requirements call for them.
Sheet metal fabrication
Available for suitable formed components and assemblies.
Finishing and part handling
Surface finishing is planned around drawing notes, application needs, and material requirements.
Assembly and packaging
Coordinated when parts are supplied as kits or need additional handling instructions.
Engineering communication
Resolve open questions before production
Our 10 manufacturing engineers, each with more than 10 years of industry experience, help coordinate supplier, process, quality, and delivery communication. We draw on a core network of 50+ proven manufacturing partners and select resources according to the project.
Project review can cover
- 01DFM feedback on geometry, tool access, and secondary operations
- 02Tolerance requirements against the proposed manufacturing route
- 03Material designation and requested documentation availability
- 04Inspection planning, burr control, surface condition, and handling
- 05Production and delivery follow-up across the supply chain
A general machining capability does not automatically qualify a supplier for a precision sealing component. Kovar-specific capability and process suitability are confirmed with the proposed partner.
RFQ checklist
Project parameters to define before quoting
The information below helps us assess manufacturability and return a more useful quotation. Actual limits and acceptance criteria depend on the part, drawing, selected process, and inspection plan.
| RFQ parameter | What to provide | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Material designation | Grade, standard, or approved equivalent | Helps confirm the correct alloy and purchasing route |
| Material documentation | Certificate, traceability, or inspection records required | Allows documentation availability to be checked before order placement |
| Part geometry | 2D drawing and, if available, 3D CAD model | Supports feature review, process planning, and quotation |
| Critical dimensions | Tolerances, datums, and inspection requirements | Identifies features needing focused process and quality planning |
| Mating materials | Glass, ceramic, or other contacting components | Helps assess thermal expansion and interface requirements |
| Application conditions | Temperature range, vacuum or sealing conditions, and service environment | Clarifies functional requirements beyond part shape |
| Surface requirements | Finish, cleanliness, coating, or handling notes | Helps coordinate appropriate finishing and part handling |
| Quantity and schedule | Prototype quantity, batch size, forecast, and target date | Informs process choice, capacity planning, and delivery coordination |
We work to the tolerances and inspection requirements agreed for the project. Tight or conflicting drawing requirements can be flagged for review before production so assumptions are not left unresolved.
Process selection
Choose the route around function, geometry, and volume
The right route depends on geometry, quantity, tolerance, and how the part functions in the assembly. Any process change is reviewed for its effect on the finished component.
CNC machining
Often suitable for prototypes and low- to medium-volume parts where features or dimensions may still change. It can also suit repeat production when geometry and cost target align.
Turning or multi-axis machining
Turning may suit rings, sleeves, and flanges. Milling or multi-axis machining may suit housings, plates, and components with features across several faces.
Secondary operations or alternative processes
EDM or grinding may be considered for specific features or finishing needs. At higher volumes, other processes may be assessed based on geometry, tooling investment, material requirements, and dimensional expectations.
Applications and order profiles
Built around custom, high-value component needs
Our model is suited to international B2B companies seeking one point of coordination for engineering communication, manufacturing, and delivery—particularly for high-mix, low- to medium-volume work rather than extremely high-volume production of a single commodity part.
- Electronic packages and hermetic enclosures
- Vacuum feedthroughs and precision parts
- Optical and photonic equipment
- Semiconductor equipment
- Glass-to-metal and ceramic-to-metal seals
- Prototype, pilot, and repeat orders
Quality and cleanliness are project-specific
If parts need cleanliness controls for an optical, vacuum, or semiconductor assembly, specify the required standard and packaging conditions. We can communicate and coordinate these requirements with the selected partner.
Cleanroom production or a particular cleanliness certification is not assumed and must be confirmed for each project. If you require a certified quality system such as ISO 9001, AS9100D, IATF 16949, or ISO 13485, we can check for an appropriate partner; certification availability and scope depend on the partner selected.
Discuss your quality requirementsCommon questions
Plan with the right information
Share drawings and application details early to help resolve manufacturing and documentation questions before an order proceeds.
What should I provide for a Kovar machining quote?
Send your drawing, material specification, quantity, and target delivery date. Include requirements for thermal expansion matching, sealing, inspection, traceability, surface condition, cleanliness, or packaging.
Can you confirm material certificates and traceability?
Tell us which certificates, traceability, or inspection records you require at RFQ stage. Availability is checked with the proposed manufacturing partner before production.
Do you provide cleanroom production or certified quality systems?
These requirements are not assumed. We can check partner capability for the specified cleanliness conditions or quality system, with availability and scope confirmed for each project.
