Why C360 Brass Is Used for Turned Parts

C360 brass, commonly identified as UNS C36000, is a free-machining brass valued for its machinability. It is a practical choice for turned components with multiple features, including threads, grooves, cross-holes and close-fitting interfaces. Its cutting performance can support efficient cycle times on suitable production equipment, particularly for repeat orders.

The right material depends on the part's function, operating environment and applicable requirements. C360 contains lead, so tell us about any regulatory, customer-specific or end-market restrictions before quoting. We can review the material specification and help identify whether the requested grade is appropriate for your application.

Lead content notice

C360 contains lead. Disclose any regulatory, customer-specific or destination-market restrictions during RFQ so we can assess material suitability for your application.

Typical applications

  • Threaded fittings, adapters and connectors
  • Valve stems, bodies and small fluid-handling components
  • Instrumentation and measurement hardware
  • Bushings, spacers, inserts and fasteners
  • Precision components for automation and industrial equipment

Turning, Threads and Part Features

Our manufacturing network supports CNC turning and milling for custom brass parts. Depending on geometry, quantity and partner equipment, we can assess conventional CNC turning or suitable automated, bar-fed production routes. We review drawing details that affect machinability and repeatability.

Threads

External and internal threads, including thread class and callouts.

Turned geometry

Diameters, shoulders, grooves and undercuts.

Cross features

Cross-drilled or milled features per drawing.

Stock profile

Part length, wall thickness and stock size.

Edge & finish

Edge breaks, deburring and surface-finish requirements.

Inspection points

Critical dimensions and inspection points.

Clear specifications help us match the part to the right process and avoid assumptions during production. If a drawing leaves thread depth, datum references or finish requirements open to interpretation, we will raise the question during engineering review.

Production Planning for Repeat Quantities

C360's machining characteristics can make it suitable for efficient production of turned components, but the best setup depends on the part and order profile. We consider quantity per release, annual demand, part complexity, stock format, changeover needs and inspection requirements before recommending a manufacturing route.

We support prototype and low-volume orders as well as repeat production. For recurring demand, share your expected order schedule and forecast where available. That information helps us evaluate setup choices, production capacity and the practical balance between unit cost, lead time and inventory needs.

Our role is to match each project with a proven manufacturing partner rather than force every part into one factory's equipment. BGCNC has a core network of 50+ manufacturing partners, selected and evaluated through project cooperation.

Planning factors we weigh together

  • Quantity per release and annual demand
  • Part complexity and stock format
  • Changeover needs and inspection requirements
  • Balance between unit cost, lead time and inventory

Threading and Functional Requirements

Threads often determine whether a brass fitting or connector works as intended. We can coordinate production to your specified thread standard and review key details before release. Please include the relevant standard or a complete thread callout on your drawing. If the part interfaces with a mating component, provide its material and any fit or sealing requirements that affect the design. For pressure-containing or safety-related parts, identify the application and required validation or documentation; suitability must be assessed for the specific design and production scope.

Nominal size & pitch

Specify nominal size and pitch for each thread feature.

Class or fit

Define thread class or fit, plus internal or external direction.

Mating interface

Provide mating component material and sealing requirements.

Surface Finishing and Secondary Operations

C360 parts may be supplied machined, deburred or with a specified surface treatment. Available finishing routes depend on the part geometry, application, appearance requirements and selected supplier. We coordinate surface finishing through suitable partners when it is part of the project scope.

When requesting a finish, specify the required coating or treatment, areas to be masked, appearance expectations and any dimensional limits after finishing. If the part has sealing faces, threads or precision fits, flag these features so they can be considered during process planning and inspection.

We can also coordinate secondary operations, assembly and packaging when required. The final scope is confirmed against the drawing, order quantity and project requirements.

Specify with your finish request

  • Required coating or treatment
  • Areas to be masked
  • Appearance expectations
  • Dimensional limits after finishing
  • Sealing faces, threads and precision fits to protect

Engineering Review Before Quotation

Our manufacturing engineers review more than whether a part can be made. For a C360 brass RFQ, we assess the design, material callout, tolerance scheme, quantity and finishing requirements together. If a different process or material appears more suitable, we will explain the trade-offs for your consideration rather than changing the specification without approval.

Simplify geometry

Reduce complexity without changing the part's function.

Right-size tolerances

Avoid unnecessarily tight tolerances on non-critical features.

Clarify specifications

Resolve thread or surface-finish specification gaps.

Reduce secondary ops

Trim unnecessary secondary operations from the scope.

Match the route

Select a production route suited to current and forecast volume.

Balance cost & lead time

Weigh setup or tooling considerations against unit cost and lead time.

Quality Coordination and Documentation

Quality requirements should be defined before production begins. We coordinate inspection expectations with the manufacturing partner selected for the project and can arrange quality inspection and relevant documentation according to the agreed scope.

For an accurate review, identify critical-to-function dimensions, required sampling or inspection records, material traceability needs and any customer-specific quality conditions. BGCNC's partner network includes manufacturers operating under recognized quality systems; certification availability and scope depend on the partner selected for the actual work. We confirm applicable documentation and inspection arrangements during quotation and order review.

Define before production

  • Critical-to-function dimensions
  • Required sampling or inspection records
  • Material traceability needs
  • Customer-specific quality conditions

Is C360 Brass a Fit for Your Project?

C360 may be worth evaluating when you need a machinable brass grade for repeated production of turned parts with threads or multiple machined features. It can be a good fit for high-mix, low- to medium-volume sourcing where several custom components or processes need coordination.

We consider material, geometry, tolerance, volume, lead time and target cost together. If demand grows, our engineers can also review whether the current process remains the right choice.

May require additional review when

  • Lead content is restricted by your application or destination market
  • The part has demanding corrosion, wear or pressure requirements
  • A non-machining process could be more economical at higher volume
  • Tight tolerances apply across multiple features or after finishing
  • The order requires specific certification or traceability documentation

One Manufacturing Partner for Multiple Requirements

A C360 brass part may be only one line in a larger BOM. We support international hardware companies and equipment manufacturers that need custom mechanical parts across multiple suppliers and processes. Instead of coordinating each China-based supplier independently, you work with one BGCNC team for engineering communication, supplier matching, production coordination, quality follow-up and delivery. This approach is particularly useful for repeat purchasing, multiple SKUs and projects where brass turned parts must be delivered alongside other custom components.
