EDM machining and engineering review
Precision EDM Machining & Engineering Solutions
BGCNC coordinates wire EDM and sinker EDM for industrial parts with features traditional cutting tools may not reach or produce reliably. We review your design to determine whether EDM reduces manufacturing risk, meets the geometry, and makes sense for the total project cost.
EDM is a specialized process, not a default replacement for CNC machining. Our engineers assess the part, material, tolerances, and production volume before recommending a manufacturing path.

Make the process fit the feature
When should you specify EDM?
Consider EDM when tool access, tool deflection, or cutting forces make a feature difficult to machine conventionally. We assess the specific geometry rather than treating EDM as an automatic requirement.
Hardened materials
Machine conductive parts after heat treatment without introducing mechanical cutting forces.
Small internal radii
Create sharp internal corners and radii smaller than a rotating end mill can typically produce.
Deep, narrow features
Address slots or cavities where cutter reach and deflection could compromise the required geometry or tolerance.
Complex contours
Process intricate shapes in conductive materials such as tool steel, titanium, or copper.
Wire EDM and sinker EDM, selected for the part
Wire EDM and sinker EDM address different feature requirements. Our engineering review considers your part geometry and manufacturing sequence to identify the suitable process—or whether CNC machining, grinding, or another route is more practical.
A connected manufacturing plan
EDM is one step in the production flow
We coordinate EDM with the surrounding operations so your team has one point of contact for technical communication, process planning, and quality checks before parts leave China.
01 / Prepare
CNC milling & turning
Use CNC for initial material removal and standard features, then bring in EDM where the geometry calls for it.
02 / Form
EDM & mold making
Coordinate wire or sinker EDM for demanding features and complex contours, including requirements connected to mold manufacturing.
03 / Stabilize
Heat treatment & grinding
Plan hardening before or after selected EDM operations and coordinate precision grinding for final surface requirements.
04 / Complete
Secondary finishing
Arrange deburring, passivation, or coating to help deliver assembly-ready parts.
Engineering judgment, not process assumptions
Is EDM necessary for your design?
Our team of 10 manufacturing engineers evaluates CAD models and technical requirements to find a practical balance between design intent, manufacturability, and total cost.
- 01Simplify geometry: Identify whether a feature can be adjusted for CNC machining and potentially reduce unit cost.
- 02Optimize tolerances: Keep tight tolerances where function requires them, avoiding unnecessary lead time and cost.
- 03Compare production routes: Assess EDM against alternatives such as die casting or stamping when volumes make those routes relevant.

Common project questions
Plan the right manufacturing route
Does every sharp internal corner require EDM?
Not necessarily. The corner radius, surrounding geometry, material, and tolerance all matter. Our engineers can review whether a design adjustment or CNC approach meets the functional requirement more economically.
Can EDM be coordinated with CNC machining and grinding?
Yes. We coordinate CNC milling or turning, EDM, heat treatment, precision grinding, and secondary finishing as required by the part and its production sequence.
